Dr. Heran is CEO and Co-Founder of Paradise Recovery. For nearly twenty years, Dr. Heran has been a practicing psychotherapist and mental health program developer. He is a leader in best-practice applications and has held positions of clinical leadership since 1995. Dr. Heran is a former Jesuit of the New England Province and trained at the Weston Jesuit School of Theology in Cambridge, Massachusetts. He completed his training in Clinical Social Work at New York University and Smith College. His areas of expertise include: individual trauma work, sexual identity issues, sex addiction recovery and couples and family therapy related to addiction recovery. He co-authored a research project with Dr. Bessel van der Kolk, M.D. on the traumatic effects of awareness during surgery (General Hospital Psychiatry, 23 2001 pp.190-204).
He says, “Paradise Recovery was created to respond to the lack of recovery-based individualized programming and care in Hawaii and the Pacific Rim that integrated a mind, body, spirit approach. “
He is currently writing a manuscript to be published entitled, “Right Living: Seven Key Virtues in Sustained Recovery from Addiction.”
